Stephen: You must have had an eventful year following Pacific Northwest Ballet; it sounds like a great project. Thanks for sharing your ideas on the subject.

As an aside, Sophie Flack writes from her own experiences- she was with New York City Ballet for 9 years.

Haven’t read “Bunheads” yet, but my new non-fiction book, “Where Snowflakes Dance and Swear: Inside the Land of Ballet” has a somewhat different take that reveals a lot of generosity in the ballet world. It’s not all peaches and cream in the company I followed for a year, but it’s not mostly backbiting either, and there’s plenty of encouragement in these studios. I just posted an essay synthesizing this here:

We were hoping for something that would take us out of the ordinary. We never imagined this. You snuck up on us in the woods! Your performance was all at once heartfelt, truthful, playful and, most importantly, it resonated.
