There’s a New Groove in Town

There’s a New Groove in Town

In the ongoing search for music that speaks to the soul and makes it impossible to stand still, I have come across some wonderful choices. However, if I am going to pay for music, then it must provide sounds that course through the very fiber of my being, down to the cellular level, cracking my heart wide open and filling it with a golden radiance of pure, creative bliss.

Looking for a transcendental aural experience isn’t asking too much. Otherwise, it’s not worth the money.

The current soundscape in my studio and living room is Midival Times by Midival Punditz. The album is one of those rare creative birds that makes the heart sing… this time in an alchemical fusion of Indian electronica. Delhi based duo Gaurav Raina and Tapan Raj have been sighted as pioneers in a scene of some of the freshest global music out of India.

A little table drum, a little low-tempo groove starts the day off just right.

Gotta Get A Groove On

Gotta Get A Groove On

Different day, different mood. Outside the window, clouds alternate with bright sunshine every other minute. Scattered, light showers keep the surrounding hills green. At least for now. The shifting weather outside the window seems the perfect metaphor for the shifting moods inside each of us, each day to be different from the next. Our needs are different, too, especially where musical inspiration is concerned. One day we might feel energetic, and trance music is just the ticket, while other days we may feel smaller and more fragile, and calm and soothing music is just right.

In general, music that lifts you up is going to get you on your feet and moving. Music that speaks to our hearts has a direct connection to our hips and feet. It all goes together into one fine groove. New music and new inspiration is key to getting your groove on, and today’s digital age offers us a plethora of choice right at our fingertips. It’s a great time to be alive…. and dance.
